The layout, featured in Great Model Railroads 2016, follows the Southern Pacific’s Shasta route from Dunsmuir, California through Canyon, Small, Cantara Loop, Pioneer, Black Butte, and over the Dry Canyon viaduct to points north. The scenery and backdrop are 98% complete including large painted representations of Mount Shasta and Castle Crag. There are staging yards at each end of the 350 foot mainline to represent connections with the rest of the world. The layout’s era is the mid 1950’s and features late model heavy steam locomotives and first generation diesels pulling long freight trains and local and through passenger trains (the Shasta Daylight). Five hundred new trees (now 2000 plus) have been added, and all roundhouse tracks are now operational.
